About Jan Wood
Videographer - Feminist - Producer

Jan Wood is a baby boomer currently embracing the challenges of ageing. Over the course of the 415 episodes of Coffee Break that she produced, she learnt a great deal of the ageing experience and new developments in technology that have changed how we interact with each other in a modern society. In hindsight, this production provides an autobiographical recount of Jan’s journey into the later years of life from Episode 1 in 2006, when Jan was 54 years old until 2015, when she was 63.

Jan Wood trained as a teacher, specialising in primary education. Her passion with her classes was creating film scripts and short films for drama lessons. Film making became an ongoing theme in her life’s work, and she has an extraordinary archive of home movies from 1969 to 2020. Jan started making television shows for Channel 31 in Sydney in the late 1990s. She created over 100 episodes the Swan Art show which focused on depicting women artistry and developing a philosophy of female centric television. Eventually, this show evolved into her renowned ‘Coffee Break’ series, which TVS broadcasted weekly for over nine years. Jan remained a teacher throughout this time and also created several other films and documentaries including ‘Inside Beijing’ (1995), ‘A House Wife’s Guide to Russia’ (1997) and ‘My Mother Has a Boyfriend’ (2000).

Jan considers ‘Coffee Break’ to be her ultimate passion project and wishes to continue to bring her new film creations and ideas to modern screens with her eccentric and bright personality.
